The promise of jobs at the Assam Regimental Centre led to disappointment, arrests and assault today.
Two persons, Valmiki Amar and Sujan Sharma, were arrested by police from Madanrting police station for taking money from those they promised jobs in Happy Valley here.
A person known to the duo tried to defend them and this moved a mob comprising those who felt cheated and they beat him up.
Fortunately, personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) rescued him. However, in the melee one policeman also received injuries.
Amar and Sharma were reportedly taking Rs 5,000 from each candidate to help them get jobs at the Assam Regimental Centre (ARC) since February.
Today morning they reportedly gathered the people who had paid them and informed the hopefuls that there were no more jobs available. This prompted the job seekers to ask for their money back and a heated argument developed.
Some of those who were promised jobs went to the ARC and found that there were no such jobs as promised by the duo and this angered them and the pair were immediately taken to the police station. There are reportedly more than 500 victims who joined a WhatsApp group created by the two suspects.
