Shillong, Nov 19: Election Commissioner of India Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu visited the Sacred Summit of Lum Sohpetbneng today.
He was accompanied by his wife and senior government officials, Chief Electoral Officer BDR Tiwari and Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal.
Sandhu was received by representatives of Seng Khasi Kmie—D.L. Nongbri, Vice President, Paia.B. Synrem, Assistant General Secretary along with members of the Jylli Pyrkhat Kam and the Lum Sohpetbneng Committee, Seng Khasi Kmie.
Sandhu, who is on official visit to the State, travelled to the Sacred Sanctum Sanctorum at Lum Sohpetbneng to offer prayers and seek blessings from God the Creator.
During the visit, he was presented with books depicting the significance and heritage of Lum Sohpetbneng and Khasi way of life.
Sandhu also engaged in a brief interaction with the elders of Seng Khasi, who shared insights on the ideology, cultural importance, and spiritual legacy of Sacred Lum Sohpetbneng.
The Election Commissioner expressed appreciation for the rich traditions and values upheld by the Seng Khasi.
