A detailed project report for construction of the Nongpoh-Umden Sonapur road has been submitted to the centre for its approval.
This was informed by Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem today.
Syiem had met Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and apprised him about the status of the road and urged the government to consider the project a priority.
It may be mentioned that the demand for construction of the road has been on the news last month after Bindas Syiem, a woman from Ri-Bhoi district launched a solo indefinite strike, which garnered support from individuals and organisations.
The MLA said a 20 km intermediate lane road will be constructed from Nongpoh to Umden in the first phase and another 38 km under the PMGSY. He said he was informed that the DPR for the project has been submitted to the Ministry of Rural Development.
“I hope soon we will get the sanction and it will benefit the people of my constituency,” he said.
