Consistent wet weather over the past several weeks come with risks to life and limb.
The East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner has issued a general advisory cautioning the public about what to do, and what not to do, during heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning.
People were warned to take extra care over flash floods, especially near rivers and streams, not to walk through flowing water (streams, rivers, drains), not to drive through flooded areas and to stay away from electric poles and power lines.
During lightning storms, people were advised to switch off electrical appliances, like electric irons, mobile chargers, televisions, etc. The public were also told to secure loose piles of lumber, tin sheets, bricks, trash cans, signboards, etc that could blow away in heavy winds.
In case of any emergency, the public may dial 112 in an emergency.
