With an aim to promote health and mental care among school children, the National Health Mission (NHM) and office of the District Medical and Health Officer in collaboration with the District Mission Coordinator, District Unit SSA-SEMAM, launched the District Level School Health and Wellness Ambassador Programme in Nongpoh.
The programme was launched by the Deputy Commissioner of Ri-Bhoi, RM Kurbah, in the presence of the Joint Director of District School Education and Literacy, VS Nongbet, the District Medical & Health Officer, Dr Mary Syiemlieh, and others.
The programme is the joint initiative of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Union Ministry of Human Resources and Development.
The School Health Ambassador Initiative aims to foster growth, development and educational achievements of school-going children by promoting their health and well-being, it also aims to strengthen the concept of preventive, promotive and positive health, which forms a fundamental part of the health and wellness centres of the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
The Ayushman Bharat Programme is aimed at making path breaking interventions to address health holistically, in primary, secondary and tertiary care systems, covering both prevention and health promotion in different components.
Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Kurbah lauded the effort taken by the department concerned through the programme which aimed to foster growths, development and educational achievement of school children, she also hoped that through the programme it will bring changes for the health and mental care among the school children.
She stressed that, to achieved the target of the programme it is very important the involvement and support of the parents, teachers and officers, so that through the programme children would get the utmost benefits, adding that, we need to teach and learn from each other, the collaboration of the two important department in this programme can really change the life and the performance of the children.
During the programme recognition of the service rendered by the officers was also given to school children who participated in different competitions.
