An awareness programme on disability and the Rights of People With Disabilities Act was held for grassroots level workers of Mawkyrwat block today.
The beneficiaries of the programme were Community Based Rehabilitation Workers, Multipurpose Rehabilitation Workers, Anganwadi and ASHA workers.
The event was organised by the Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), CRC-Shillong under the administrative control of NIEPMD-Chennai in collaboration with the Directorate of Social Welfare, Office of the Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, State Resource Centre for Disability Affairs, District Medical and Health Office and Department of Health and Family Welfare.
The Inaugural function was chaired by Evershing Tariang, Child Development Project Officer and District Social Welfare Officer of South West Khasi Hills, Diodes Thongni, IED Coordinator SSA, along with M Kathiravan, Coordinator for Awareness Programme on Disability under the North East Flagship Programme of NIEPMD-Chennai, in the presence of Ram Shakal Sahani, Officer in charge, CRC-Shillong, and resource persons Sosthiness K Warshong and Monica S Dkhar.
The training comprised topics related to 21 types of disabilities as per the 2016 law. The training will enable the CBRWs, MRWs, Anganwadi and ASHA workers to identify disabled people in Meghalaya and work for their well-being, a press release stated today, and this will go on to benefit the disabled themselves with the creation of an inclusive society.
