A disability assessment camp was today organized at the United Khasi Garo Upper Primary School in Ranikor.
The aim of the camp is to register people for UDID, to have a National PwDs Database, to identify disability as identified by the patient after proper assessment by medical officers, assess patient’s ability to communicate and their mental health, to assess their physical capabilities and above all to identity PwDs so as to empower them and ensure that the deserving gets the benefit from the government.
Besides the camp also sought to assess patients for abuse or risk for abuse (physical, emotional, financial, and sexual) by others (family, paid care providers, strangers), assess the patient for risk of falls, for depression, asses what alternative formats of instructional materials (large print, Braille, visual materials, audiotapes, interpreter) are needed by the patient with a disability. It was also to issue Disability Certificate for different categories of disability as per the RPwD Act, 2016.
The camp was organised by the office of the South West Khasi Hills District Social Welfare in collaboration with the office of District Resource Centre on Disability Affairs, West Khasi Hills District, sponsored by the state Nodal Officer, State Resource Centre on Disability Affairs, Civil Hospital, Shillong.
