South West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, Caramai Kharkongor has urged pregnant mothers to get frequent ante-natal checkups and deliveries to avoid unforeseen incidents.
Kharkongor was addressing the health mela held in Ranikor today wherein she expressed concern over the high mortality rate in maternal and infants and high risk mothers due to anaemia.
She also urged people to get themselves registered for Aadhar in order to avail the different schemes of the government and to believe in any hearsay and rumours as this will incite fear, which in turn will hinders their health, growth and development.
The deputy commissioner expressed her joy over a huge turn-out of people at the health mela. She said that the mela serves as a platform which will increase awareness about the different health programmes of the government in order to prevent them from various communicable and non-communicable diseases. While acknowledging the hardwork and dedication put up by health workers she encouraged them to work harder and give the best services they could afford for the betterment of the community.
The mela was held at the United Khasi & Garo Upper Secondary School, Ranikor wherein different stalls were also set up for generating awareness on different health programmes with focus on “Ayush Health & Wellness Care”, facilitate provision of Ayushman Bharat Cards, creation of unique Health ID under ABDM for attendees as well as to mobilize and educate communities about Ayushman Bharat E Cards and other health related schemes. Ayushman Bharat E Cards were also issued on the spot.
Block Development Officer A.L. Bareh informed that about 249 members of SHGs were imparted training by NRLM in collaboration with ICDS for the overall development in this area. He appealed people to come forward and avail such benefits and said it is the responsibility of the parents to see that their wards are fit and healthy and to avail such benefits through such mela so as to become strong, fit and healthy.
District Immunisation Officer & District Surveillance Officer, MCH, South West Khasi Hills District, Dr. W.L. Narry lamented over the low turn-out of children during the immunization programme thereby expressing his concern by urging parents to get their kids immunized as this will prevent their kids from getting sick.
He also urged eligible citizens to come forward for Covid vaccination
Medical Officer of Ranikor, Dr. H. Sangma said that the objective of this mela is to make people aware of the different health related schemes that the government has to offer free of cost in order to be strong and healthy which in turns contributes for the overall growth and development of the individual.
