Keeping a check on noise pollution that has become a social nuisance in the city the Shillong Traffic Police (STP) has realised a fine of Rs 7, 68,900 lakhs from owners of two-wheelers with modified exhaust pipes of high decibels this month.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Sylvester Nongtnger informed that the STP has been conducting vigorous vehicle checking drives and has detected 755 cases.
He said that following the checking, 17 vehicles were detected with modified exhaust pipes and action has been taken as per law.
