Death toll due to Covid-19 in Meghalaya has reached 80 with another fatality reported on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Limatoshi Ao (59) of Nongrimbah Laitumkhrah. He was declared brought dead to Bethany Hospital on October 23 at around 11 pm and was tested positive for Covid-19.
The patient has underlying health problems of Type 2 Diabetes and Hypertension, but the cause of death is unknown, Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War said.
Meanwhile, recoveries outpaced new infections as 137 patients recovered while another 81 people tested positive for the virus.
Dr. also informed that of the new cases, East Khasi Hills recorded 42, armed/paramilitary forces one and others 41, West Garo Hills 13, West Jaiñtia Hills 13, West Khasi Hills seven, East Garo Hills two, Ri-Bhoi two, East Jaiñtia Hills one and North Garo Hills one.
The district wise break up those from the others category who tested positive on Saturday are East Khasi Hills – high risk contacts – 26, health worker – one, influenza like illness – one, Laban cluster- four, Mawlai Mawtawar cluster- one, Mawprem cluster – four, returnees – two, Rilbong cluster – one, SARI case – one, West Garo Hills – high risk cases – 11, returnee – one, screening purpose – one, West Jaiñtia Hills – high risk contacts – 11, screening purpose – two, West Khasi Hills – high risk contacts seven, East Garo Hills – high risk contacts – two, Ri-Bhoi – high risk contact – one and random sampling – one, East Jaiñtia Hills – high risk contacts one and North Garo Hills – high risk contact one.
Dr. War said that of the 137 new recovered cases East Khasi Hills recorded 95 – armed/paramilitary forces seven and others 88, West Garo Hills 25 – armed/paramilitary forces four, others 21, West Jaiñtia Hills seven, North Garo Hills three, South West Garo Hills two, West Khasi Hills two, East Garo Hills one, East Jaiñtia Hills one and Ri-Bhoi one.
The number of active cases now stands at 1574 while the total recovery tally has gone up to 7228.
The Director of Health Services further informed that the number of persons tested till Saturday afternoon was 1, 90, 284 out of which 1, 06, 973 were tested through CBNAAT, TRUENAAT, RAT and number of persons tested negative through RTPCR was 77, 507.
