The number of recoveries from Covid-19 outnumbered new infections for the first time this month in Meghalaya today.
There were 123 new infections and 138 recoveries. No new fatalities from the disease were reported.
The total number of active cases stands at 2,369, while recoveries have reached 4,832. Fatalities stay at 60. There have been a total of 7,261 Covid infections in the state since the first was recorded in April.
East Khasi Hills reported 79 new cases today and there were 14 in South Garo Hills, eight in Ri-Bhoi, seven in West Garo Hills, six in South West Khasi Hills, three in North Garo Hills, three in West Jaiñtia Hills and one each in East Jaiñtia Hills, West Khasi Hills and East Garo Hills.
In East Khasi Hills 53 new cases were among high-risk contacts, one police personnel, a health worker, two had influenza like illnesses (ILIs). Cluster cases were reported in Bishnupur (five), Golf Links (one), Jaiaw (two), Laban (one), Madanrting (three), Mawkhar (one), Mawlai Nonglum (one), Mawprem (one), Oakland (one, Polo (one), Rynjah (three) and Umpling (two).
There were two high-risk contacts and one health worker in North Garo Hills who tested positive, seven high-risk contacts and one returnee in Ri-Bhoi, 14 high-risk contacts in South Garo Hills, six high-risk contacts in South West Khasi Hills, one health worker, three high-risk contacts, one ILI and two returnees in West Garo Hills, one returnee and two high-risk contacts in West Jaiñtia Hills and one high-risk contact in West Khasi Hills.
Of the 138 recoveries, 102 were in East Khasi Hills, 16 in West Garo Hills, eight in Ri-Bhoi, six in West Khasi Hills, four in East Jaiñtia Hills and one each in South Garo Hills and West Jaiñtia Hills.
The Director of Health Services informed that a total of 1, 67,265 samples were tested, of which 1, 60,004 were negative. The number of people who have entered Meghalaya since coronavirus restrictions were put in place is 45,205.
