The Department of Biomedical Engineering at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) in collaboration with the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) Shillong, has launched a capacity-building course, ‘Programming Technologies’ for pre-final and final year BTech students.
The course began on September 9 and will conclude on September 23. This initiative falls under Category 3 of the project ‘Capacity Building in IECT, including training in Digital Skillsets and Current Industry-Demanding Technologies for Various Sections of Society in the NE States,’ a press release informed today. More than 40 students are attending this course free of cost.
The project is designed to uplift the socio-economic status of citizens in the North East by fostering a smart ecosystem with vital IT education and skill development.
It aims to train 1.665 lakh citizens from diverse sections of society across the region’s states. The course specifically targets pre-final and final year students of technical graduates and will equip them with the skills necessary to meet industry standards, making them job-ready for various roles in the rapidly evolving tech landscape, the release added.
Prof Dinesh Bhatia, course coordinator, thanked the resource persons, trainers, students and the collaborating organisations. Prof SS Ray, Head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, apprised the participants about the importance of skill development courses and how these could help future generations in getting skilled and getting more employment opportunities.
Santanu Borgohain, officer in charge of NIELIT Shillong, informed the participants about different skill development courses being offered by the institute and how these could be incorporated with the new National Education Policy 2020-based course curriculum of NEHU.
