Nongpoh, May 1: The office of the SDO, Patharkhmah Civil Sub-Division has taken a significant step towards enhancing environmental sustainability with the launch of the ‘Green Force Patharkhmah’, to engage local communities in environmental preservation efforts.
The initiative was launched on Friday in collaboration with the Ri-Bhoi district administration and the Meghalaya Basin Management Agency (MBMA).
The initiative aims to harness community involvement to address pressing environmental issues. It focuses on promoting sustainable practices, raising awareness about the importance of biodiversity, and encouraging participation in tree planting and waste management programs. By engaging local youth and community members, the initiative hopes to create a more environmentally mindful society.
Jirang MLA Sosthenes Sohtun, including Chaitanya Awasthi, SDO of Patharkhmah Civil Sub-Division, Petal Thangkhiew, Rangbah Shnong of Patharkhmah, and Bahbok Wahlang, President of the Patharkhmah Youth Club were present on the occasion.
As part of the programme, cleaning equipment such as boots and gloves were distributed to support sanitation drives. A cleanliness drive was also conducted on the same day, covering the local football ground and surrounding areas, with active participation from the Minister, officials, and local residents.
