Speculations are rife after Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today visited the Radisson Blu hotel at Guwahati, where the rebel Maharashtra Shiv Sena MLAs are staying.
Although it is not clear whether Sangma met the rebel Shiv Sena MLAs there, but his sudden visit to the luxury hotel has dominated the national headlines.
Even the Trinamool Congress has slammed the NPP president for visiting the hotel amid the political crisis in Maharashtra. The party accused him of working together with BJP to destabilise an opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in Maharashtra.
“CM@Sangma Conrad reaches Guwahati in what seems to be an attempt to further the BJP’s agenda,” the Trinamool Congress tweeted.
However, Sangma denied his visit to the Radisson Blu hotel in Guwahati as having any links to politics.
Sangma told reporters outside the Radisson Blu that his visit to the Guwahati hotel was a personal one and not to meet the rebel Shiv Sena MLAs.
“This is a personal visit. We are here to have lunch. Nothing more,” Sangma said.
It may be mentioned that NPP is part of the BJP-led NDA government and BJP is also an ally in the Sangma-led government in Meghalaya.
The Radisson Blu hotel, located on National Highway 37 on the outskirts of Guwahati has become the centre of attention ever since rebel Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde camped there along with 40-odd Maharashtra MLAs, posing an existential threat to the Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress government led by Uddhav Thackaray.
Shinde and his MLAs wanted Shiv Sena to end its alliance with NCP and Congress. He also wanted Shiv Sena to form the new government with BJP.
