Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma today ruled out the possibility of an independent probe into Tura MDC and state BJP vice-president Bernard Marak’s case.
“There is no question of an independent probe,” Sangma told reporters. “Investigations are ongoing and facts are coming out, so I don’t think there is any reason for any such independent probe.”
Marak has been placed under arrest after police raided a property belonging to him in Tura on suspicion that it was being used as a brothel.
On Monday, state BJP leaders, who have defended Marak, met Governor Satya Pal Malik to demand the removal of West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Swapnil Tembe and Superintendent of Police Vivekananda Singh Rathore ostensibly to ensure fairness in the investigation. The party has also accused the police of harassing its members in Tura.
