The dire transportation infrastructure in parts of Garo Hills had another unfortunate story to tell today after an injured man in the East Garo Hills’ village of Rongsak had to be stretchered all the way to a health centre as vehicles are unable to use the dreadful road.
Watseng A Sangma fell out of a tree while collecting betel leaves and was left injured. With no transport possible due to the poor condition of the public road, which is meant to connect Rongsak Bazar to Denajekgre, villagers carried the man all the way to a health centre for treatment.
According to locals, the road’s completion has been left pending since it began in 2018 under the central government’s PMGSY scheme. Sources say that the project was allotted to one contractor by the name of SM Sangma.
