Residents and pressure group leaders of Dobu, in East Garo Hills, have written a complaint to the District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) against the behaviour of the doctor in charge, Jebi Marak, as well as other staff from the Primary Health Centre, who they accused of misbehaviour.
In the complaint, the NGOs and residents complained of negligence, incompetency and misbehaviour of the staff and doctor in charge of the PHC.
According to the complaint, on April 15, one Mickillish Momin and her child, who was severely ill, were crying for help in front of the PHC.
“When we inquired, we found that there was no doctor and not even one staff member to attend to the illness of the child. We waited for some time but still did not get anyone to attend to the patient. If this remains the case, emergency patients will be leaving their lives at stake,” they added.
The complainants added that the doctor in question, Marak, had often misbehaved with patients and regularly missed office. She was also accused of causing public nuisance along with her friends in public places.
“As residents, we solely depend on the PHC for treatment, especially during the pandemic. The staff of the PHC take their responsibilities very lightly. We may face a huge problem in the future if this kind of behaviour continues,” said the complainants.
The complainants further added a video of the incident to support their complaint.
