A complaint has been lodged with the Chief Engineer (NH), PWD (Roads) against a company and a contractor engaged in maintenance works along two sections of the National Highway 62 in South Garo Hills district.
The complaint was filed today by social activist Greneth M Sangma against Midas Construction and one Niku Saha for delaying the project.
Sangma said the two work orders were issued on June 27, 2024 and October 9, 2024 with contract amount of Rs 2,48,37,658.002 and 2,38,25,581.60 respectively. However, despite clear instructions and timelines, progress has been woefully inadequate, causing inconvenience and reflecting poorly on government efforts, he said.
According to Sangma, the contractor failed to commence work within 15 days of the notice to proceed and has not adhered to the project timeline as insufficient resources have been deployed.
Seeking action against the construction company and the contractor, he demanded that the department should impose penalties as per the contract agreement, terminate the contract and call for fresh tender.
