The Meghalaya Pradesh Mahila Congress President Joplyn Scott Shylla expressed deep concern over the alarming rise in crimes across the state and the country.
“The increasing incidents of violence, theft, harassment, and attacks in both urban and rural areas highlight a severe breakdown in law and order, which the present government centre and state has failed to address effectively,” she said in a statement today.
Urging the government to take immediate and concrete steps to curb the growing crime rate, Shylla demanded that police personnel be deployed in vulnerable and isolated areas, especially tourist spots and public spaces, to ensure the safety and security of citizens and visitors alike.
Shylla said the key to reduce crime is by tackling unemployment. “The government must prioritize youth employment through sustainable livelihood programs, skill development initiatives, and job creation strategies. Unemployment and lack of opportunity are pushing many young people toward crime and antisocial behaviour,” she added.
She further said if the administration continues to ignore the rising insecurity in the country and state, it will not only threaten the safety of its residents but also damage the image of India and Meghalaya as a peaceful and welcoming destination for tourists from far and near.
