Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma today inaugurated the new building of the Bengali Secondary School, Dalu, in West Garo Hills, which was constructed under the Supporting Human Capital Development Project in Meghalaya, funded by Asian Development Bank (ADB).
This project focuses on the improvement of secondary education, infrastructure and skill development. Under this project, scores of government-aided secondary and higher secondary schools in the state are being upgraded with the kind of infrastructure meant to improve the overall learning environment for students.
Speaking on the occasion, Sangma termed the project as a blessing for the students, for the people of Dalu as well as Garo Hills and Meghalaya as a whole.
On the same day the Chief Minister also laid the base for the construction of a mini-stadium at Dalu Secondary School in presence of Dalu MLA Brening A Sangma, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh and other officials.
Speaking on the occasion, the CM lauded the efforts of the Sports Minister for his dedication to enhance the sports facilities and infrastructure.
Talking about the sporting talents and lack of sports facilities, chief minister Sangma said, “We have immense talent in our state. However, due to lack of infrastructure and guidance, the youth are not able to unleash their full potential.”
Meanwhile, Sangma also laid the foundation stone for the Chenanggre Stadium in Adokgre, North Garo Hills.
Explaining the choice of name, Sangma, in a social media post, said that his late father, Purno A Sangma, would always start his election campaigns from Adokgre and won every election he contested, thus nicknaming the town Chenanggre, which means ‘Land of Victory’ in the Garo language.
“By laying the foundation for the Chenanggre Stadium in Adokgre, North Garo Hills, I wish a victorious future for our youth,” he added. “I am happy that we have been able to conceptualise this intervention to provide sporting facilities to the youth of North Garo Hills.”
