Various government bodies conducted cleaning drives today on Gandhi Jayanti under the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign.
Among those were the National Career Service Centre for Differently Abled (erstwhile VRC), a subordinate office under the Directorate General of Employment (DGE).
This centre performed different activities over the last two weeks, like cleanliness of office premises, residential areas, parks, roadsides, electronic items, community mobilisation, essay and quiz competitions, etc with the active participation of employees, trainees, school students and community members.
The prize distribution ceremony for the different competitions was held and Swachhata pledge was taken by all the participants today to maintain cleanliness under Swachha Bharat Abhiyan 3.0, which is to be conducted from October 3 to 31, 2023.
The Central Bureau of Communication’s Nongstoiñ field office, in association with the Dorbar Shnong Pyndengrei and Pyndengrei Social and Cultural Sports Club, also organised an outreach programme on Swachhata Hi Seva at Dong Tiehrit, Pyndengrei, Nongstoiñ today.
The programme focused on creating a mass movement for cleanliness and sanitation through community participation.
The chief guest, Michael Marwein, Sordar of Pyndengrei, urged the people to keep cooperating with government departments to bring about zero waste in Pyndengrei’s surrounding areas and the town as a whole. He also expressed his gratitude to the office for putting signboards in the locality and not throwing garbage around.
Resource Person Enbok Syiem, Block Coordinator of the Swachha Bharat Mission, stressed on the need for waste segregation at the household level. He also informed the villagers that a plastic waste management centre is being prepared near Pyndengrei and once the machine is installed, people will be able to dump the plastic waste there and then it will be recycled or reused.
Apart from the cleanliness drive, art and karaoke competitions were organised and winners were felicitated.
