Elders and NGO members of West Garo Hills yesterday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking the release of 83-year-old Jesuit priest, Fr Stan Swamy, who was arrested in the early part of October in relation to the Bhima-Koregaon case of 2017.
The Church bodies and activists sought the release of the priest as Fr Stan suffers from various old age-related illnesses, including Parkinson’s disease, and requires regular medical attention.
The letter to the PM was sent through the Deputy Commissioner.
“Given his age, his health and his reputation as a prominent Christian elder and a well known Jesuit priest, we pray for the early and immediate release of Fr Swamy. He has rendered yeoman service to the nation, mainly for the marginalized and downtrodden sections of society,” said the leaders in their letter to the PM on behalf of Christians of Garo Hills.
The elders and leaders alleged that many amongst the Christian society were being falsely implicated in cases where they are not involved, as they stated was the case of Fr Swamy.
