The Court of the Special Judge (POCSO) in Nongstoin has sentenced a convicted child murderer, Blansius Nongsiej, to life in prison for a murder going back four years.
In the judgement passed on Tuesday, the court also ordered Nongsiej to pay Rs 50,000 as a fine. In addition, he was also sentenced to 30 years rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 20,000 under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional six months’ simple imprisonment.
Nongsiej was convicted of murdering a minor girl on March 31, 2019 at Umwar Umyiap village in West Khasi Hills.
After a thorough investigation, police arrested Nongsiej and he has now been convicted.
