Chief Secretary Donald P Wahlang reviewed various schemes and their implementation in Garo Hills yesterday while on an official visit to Tura.
Principal Secretary of Health and Family Welfare Sampath Kumar, Commissioner and Secretary of Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Pravin Bakshi, Secretary of Education Swapnil Tembe, Deputy Commissioners and concerned officials from all five Garo Hills districts attended the review meeting.
The Chief Secretary reviewed the implementation of Prime Minister Awas Yojana (Urban/Rural), status of projects implemented by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL), Prime Minister Surya Ghar Muft Bijili Yojana, Mission Education, Aadhaar coverage and seeding with National Food Security Act ration cards, Megha Health Insurance Scheme and health infrastructure and social security schemes under the Labour Department (PM-SYN/ PMSBY/ PMJJBY).
While presenting the physical progress of PMAY in the district, challenges of geo-tagging due to poor network connectivity, problems of beneficiaries residing on government land, Aadhar seeding, etc were addressed during the meeting, an official press release stated today. Moreover, the overview of the projects implemented by NHIDCL showed constant progress on the Tura-Dalu Road, Dainadubi-Darugre while the Baghmara to Shillong Road is almost complete; it currently takes only six hours from Baghmara to Shillong, according to NHIDCL officials.
Wahlang urged all the DC to review all the schemes at the district level and keep a track on the progress of these schemes. With regard to PMAY beneficiaries, he said that no households are to be left behind and anyone without a house in the state should be covered. Further, mentioning about the distance shortened to six hours from Baghmara to Shillong, he said that people from Khasi Hills region will now have the opportunity to visit the Balpakram National Park, but he suggested that the Forest Department upgrade and repair the guest house at Balpakram to accommodate tourists.
Further, while discussing the PM Surya Ghar Mukt Bijili Yojana, the Chief Secretary directed the Planning Department to write to the CM Solar Mission for convergence and also to work aggressively to meet the required target. He also urged all the DCs of Garo Hills to facilitate the process of Aadhaar enrolment and seeding for availing various government schemes.
Wahlang also urged the officials to highlight the social security schemes and the financial assistance provided to the patients under MHIS scheme by the government, citing that these are the schemes that really help poor people and urged the department to publish their success stories.
