The Green Valley Cement Ltd (Max cement) has contributed Rs 2.21 lakh to the Ephphatha Society, an organisation working towards empowering differently-abled persons, for construction of a training centre at Dkhiah West in East Jaintia Hills.
The training centre will be constructed at a 20 sq ft land donated by Pati Phawa and her family.
A programme to mark the beginning of the construction was held today which was attended by Assistant Vice President of the company, Pawan Joshi.
Speaking at the programme, Joshi expressed happiness on behalf of the company to be able to contribute to the welfare of persons with disabilities on a day which coincides with the death anniversary of Gajanand Agarwal, the chairman and founder of Max Cement.
Director of Ephphta, E.S.Sapuh thanked the company and said its support would further inspire the organisation to work hard towards empowering persons with disabilities.
Vice President, Heipor-uni Bang informed that the society has five members and 60 donors who contribute monthly towards their work.
Others present were representatives from the company, Surjit Dutta, Srimanto Chattarjee and Jogi Agarwal, members of the society and others.
