The Ri-Bhoi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided to extend support to the National People’s Party (NPP) candidate for the Shillong Lok Sabha seat, as directed to be the saffron party’s central leadership.
The district unit unanimously decided to back Ampareen Lyngdoh’s candidature since the NPP and BJP are part of the National Democratic Alliance, district BJP president Sen Thabah told reporters.
State and district party leaders encouraged grassroots members to support the NPP in the election. Meghalaya will go to the polls on April 19.
Some of those present included BJP national council member David Kharsati, BJP state youth wing president Mewanker Lyngdoh and BJP state women’s wing leader Susuki Pariat, among others.
