The Tura Based Christian Churches (TBCC) held a candlelight service and prayers yesterday evening here in support of Fr Stan Swamy, a Jesuit priest who was arrested by the National Investigation Agency last month.
The 83-year-old was arrested on October 8 in connection with the case surrounding the Elgaar Parishad, which investigators believe led to the Bhima Koregaon violence in January 2018 in Pune.
The prayer service was led by Hawakhana Baptist Church pastor, Rev Frithing D Sangma.
Today the TBCC submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi through the Deputy Commissioner calling for Fr Stan’s release.
