A warning about the coming of locusts to Garo Hills has gripped the region since first being shared through social media two days ago.
One Tejen Mrong Marak had said that locusts had arrived in Phulbari Bangrangre and have started eating crops and other plants.
This has created a sense of fear in those involved in agriculture as they are worried that they could lose their crops if a swarm of the insects descends on their farms.
There have been reports since the first half of the year about locust swarms moving in an eastwards direction from the Middle East into Pakistan and then India.
However, it has yet to be ascertained whether these insects are actually the same swarm of locusts. These insects also do not resemble the ones usually found in Garo Hills. Villagers are reportedly planning to burn them for fear of losing their crops.
