Students from the Tura campus of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) met with Vice-Chancellor Prof PS Shukla to request for representation on the NEHU Students Union.
The students pointed out to Shukla that there has been no election for a students union on the Tura campus for the “past few years.”
The VC replied that, as per the NEHU constitution, there can only be one students union to represent the students in the varsity. The way forward, according to him, is to divide NEHUSU posts between students of the two campuses.
He added that for upcoming events such as varsity week and other programmes, the students council will take full responsibility in organising the events until the next NEHUSU election is held. Up until now, student activities and programmes on the Tura campus were conducted by the administration even though the constitution clearly states that they should be organised by the students union.
