The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) has urged other political parties in Meghalaya to join their movement for separate Khasi-Jaintia and Garo states.
HSPDP president, KP Pangniang pointed out that in Garo Hills different political parties in that region have members in the Garo State Movement Committee (GSMC).
“Pressure groups, Nokmas and Mother’s Union are part of the movement, Pangniang pointed out.
He also said that various pressure groups in Khasi-Jaintia Hills have the same ideology.
It may be mentioned that the HSPDP which is demanding a separate Khasi-Jaintia state has joined hands with the GSMC which is for a separate Garo state.
The HSPDP is also now a part of the National Federation of New States (NFNS). The NFNS is a federation of groups demanding new states to be carved out of existing ones, such as for a tribal state in Tripura, Gorkhaland, Karbi Anglong, etc.
