The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) today submitted its suggestions to the expert committee that is reviewing the state’s reservation policy.
In its suggestions, the HSPDP, was of the opinion of combining the 40 percent each for Khasi-Jaintia and Garo so as to bring the healthy competition and efficiency in order of merit amongst the members of the Scheduled Tribes of Meghalaya.
“This will also prevent deprivation or discrimination on ethnic identity,” Panbor Ryntathiang, the party general secretary, said.
On the issue of the office memorandum of 1972, on the matter of district level posts, the party suggested 90 percent, for Khasi-Jaintia in Khasi-Jaintia hills district and the same for Garos in Garo Hills.
The HSPDP also wants the process of “carry forward” to be done away with as currently exists in Para 2 of the Reservation Policy.
“In that particular year when there is a vacancy of posts, the process should be completed in that year itself,” Ryntathiang said.
Meanwhile, in relation to the reservation policy as it applies to higher education, the HSPDP said that there is no proper indication in relation to percentage of marks. The party has urged the expert committee to reconsider this matter.
