The state cabinet has scrapped a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with NEEPCO for a 500 megawatt thermal power project in Garo Hills.
Power Minister Abu Taher Mondal informed today that NEEPCO, a public sector utility, only wants to embark on clean energy projects from here on.
The MoU was signed 12 years ago, on March 17, 2011.
Meanwhile, Mondal also informed that the state government has exempted the Revamped Distribution Sector (RDS) Scheme from state GST. He said that the central government has already exempted it from central GST.
The RDS Scheme is meant to improve the quality, reliability and affordability of power supply to consumers through a financially sustainable and operationally efficient distribution sector.
