The U Tirot Sing Memorial was inaugurated today at the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC) in Dhaka, Bangladesh where the bust of U Tirot Sing Syiem, braveheart of Khasi Hills and freedom fighter of Meghalaya was also unveiled.
This is in line with the celebration of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mohotsav in Bangladesh.
The delegation to Bangladesh was led by Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar along with the Arts and Culture Minister Paul Lyngdoh, officials, renowned artist of the state Raphael Warjri, who designed the bust and officials.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma wrote on X, “U Tirot Sing Syiem’s valour in protecting his people and his land will forever make him one of the fiercest freedom fighters of the region and the country. We bow to his courage, his sacrifice and his unyielding resolve.”
He also expressed gratitude to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India, the Indian High Commission at Dhaka, the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC) for their support.
