In two different incidents on Sunday, the Border Security Force (BSF) seized cosmetics and clothing items worth Rs 38 lakh along the international border in East Khasi Hills, foiling the attempts of miscreants to smuggle the items into Bangladesh.
The consignments were being carried as headloads by the smugglers. On seeing the BSF personnel approaching them, they abandoned their cargo and fled towards Bangladesh through an unfenced portion of the border.
The seized items were handed over to customs officials in Pynursla for further investigation and legal action.
This year, BSF Meghalaya has seized cosmetics worth Rs 1.6 crore and clothing worth Rs 1.5 crore, the border force said in a press release.
