Acting on a specific tip-off, the Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya seized cosmetic items yesterday worth Rs 31 lakh along the international border in East Jaiñtia Hills.
The cosmetics, namely a type of skin cream, were meant to be smuggled into Bangladesh.
The consignment was seized by the vigilant personnel of the 172 Battalion of the BSF near the border outpost at Hangaria, East Jaiñtia Hills. The skin creams were dumped in a jungle area close to the border.
The seized items were handed over to customs officials for further action. Since January, the BSF has seized cosmetics worth more than Rs 97 lakh from the Indo-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya.
