The West Jaiñtia Hills unit of the Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation (HITO) has accused the Jaiñtia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) of manipulation and favouritism in its appointment of an agent to oversee the checkpoint at Khliehtyrshi.
At the checkpoint, non-tribals are checked to see whether they have JHADC trading licences, HITO said in a press release. It had recently been moved to Khliehtyrshi from Mokyndur.
The JHADC had called for a tender to lease out the checkpoint and HITO claims that the contract has been awarded to one Sevenborn Tang “all of a sudden” without following the rules and regulations.
