Troops from the Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya successfully rescued 64 cattle yesterday before they could be smuggled into Bangladesh.
Based on specific information, personnel of the 4th Battalion conducted a special operation near the international border in West Jaintia Hills district and managed to seize the cattle, which were concealed in a jungle. The seized cattle were handed over to the concerned police station for further necessary action.
In another operation, BSF troops seized 12,000 kg of sugar loaded in three Bolero pickups, intended for smuggling into Bangladesh through the international border of East Khasi Hills.
The BSF in a statement said that through its enhanced vigilance and continuous efforts to curb the smuggling activities along Indo-Bangladesh border, more than 800 cattle and 2310 tons of sugar meant for smuggling to Bangladesh were seized from different border areas of Meghalaya since January 2024.
