Yesterday vigilant troops of the BSF Meghalaya, deployed along the International Border in the East Jaintia Hills district, thwarted a smuggling attempt by seizing 980 bottles of Phensedyl cough syrup intended for smuggling into Bangladesh.
Alert troops of the 172 Battalion BSF observed suspicious movement near the International Border involving some smugglers carrying headloads. When challenged by the BSF, the smugglers managed to escape, taking advantage of the thick vegetation and undulating terrain. After a thorough search of the area, the BSF troops recovered 980 bottles of Phensedyl, which were intended to be smuggled into Bangladesh.
The seized Phensedyl bottles were handed over to the customs office in Badarpur for further action.
