The women’s wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Meghalaya held a demonstration outside the party office today to protest against what it described as violence perpetrated by the Trinamool Congress in West Bengal.
Sandeshkhali, a village in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, has seen protests over the last several days by people alleging that a local TMC leader had sexually abused women. Shajahan Sheikh and his supporters have also been accused of land-grab.
State BJP Mahila Morcha president Susuki Pariat said, “We strongly condemn the incident that occurred in Sandeshkhali, West Bengal. Where are the villains? Where is Sheikh Shahjahan? Why can’t Mamata Banerjee find him? Is he hiding in her bungalow? We demand that she arrests theculprits immediately.”
A party press release added, “The incidents of exploitation of women have become a hallmark of West Bengal under Mamata’s stewardship, which is a crying shame considering she is the only woman Chief Minister in the country today.”
