The Meghalaya BJP Mahila Morcha and Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) paid respect and rich floral tribute to freedom fighter U Kiang Nangbah on his 161st death anniversary.
Both the Meghalaya BJP Mahila Morcha and BJYM asked people to reflect and draw inspiration from the life of the legendary freedom fighter.
At a program in State Central Library, which followed a wreath laying ceremony at the complex, president of Meghalaya BJP Mahila Morcha, Sukhi Pariat said, “We request the state Govt to focus on the various problems being faced by the single mothers. Mothers nurture the future of our society and they must be provided with all kinds of support to ensure that we bring up a next generation that guarantees a healthy society.”
Pariat also said that the problem of drug abuse amongst the youth is also rampant in the state today even as she urged all sections of society must work closely to ensure that the young ones are weaned away from the lure of drugs and brought back to a normal, healthy life.
She also said that the government must also focus on poverty alleviation.
After the program at State Central Library, the team moved to Motphran and paid respect to U Kiang Nongbah by hanging flower pots at the war memorial there.
Here Pariat stated, “Motphran is a memorial to the Khasi Martyrs who laid down their lives in France during the First World War. We request the people to keep Motphran beautiful in their honour, and never paste posters on the memorial.”
