The Garo Hills unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) celebrated the foundation day of the party in Tura with the launch of a year-long initiative to ‘Empower Women through Women’.
The initiative was launched by BJP state vice-president and Tura MDC Bernard N Marak. It is meant to be a focus on the values of a matrilineal society and the traditional role of women in the hill communities.
Marak said that this initiative has been dubbed BIEMA (Beneficiary Identification Empowerment Motivation Awareness).
“All support required from the BJP government in the Centre would be delivered without fail,” he said. “Many women are yet to take up active responsibilities in our society. Women should be socially and politically active to lead, protect and transform the matrilineal society as it has its unique values.”
