Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong today laid the foundation for a blacktopped road in Umskun village, Ri-Bhoi.
The road will run for 2.5km from National Highway 6 to Umskun at an estimated amount of Rs 4.5 crore.
The laying of the foundation stone was also attended by Umsning MDC Macdalyne Sawkmie Mawlong, Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Arpit Upadhaya, headman of Umskun Stephan Kshiar, other officials and villagers.
Despite being fairly close to NH-6, it has taken decades for the village to get a proper road connecting them to the outside world.
Tynsong promised that the road will be completed within a year and denied that the work was in any way connected to the upcoming state election.
