A career guidance and counselling programme was held for students under the Umsning in Ri Bhoi by the Seng Samla & Cultural Sports Club of Syadrit in collaboration with the University of Science and Technology (USTM), Meghalaya at Balawan College Hall.
The initiative aims to empower the students of various schools of the area, by providing them with valuable insights into academic choices, career opportunities, skill development, and scholarship options.
Over 1,000 eager and motivated students actively took part in the program, showcasing a strong commitment to their academic and personal growth.
USTM Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque was the special invitee for the program and had an engaging interaction throwing light at multiple career paths, highlighting and emerging opportunities. He assured the attendees that more career counselling programs would soon reach even the most remote corners and rural areas, bringing guidance and opportunity where it is desperately needed.
Shillong MP Ricky Andrew J Syngkon, Umsning MLA Dr Celestine Lyngdoh and MDC Banrikus Nongsteng attended the programme as guests.
The programme was also attended by three resource persons from USTM—Prof Amit Choudhury, Debasish Saha and Nurmahmud Ali—who guided the students choosing courses in higher education, role of institutions in the context of the NEP and how education bridges employability.
The interactive session was peppered with personal anecdotes, real-world examples, and a roadmap to help students identify their passions, assess their strengths, and align their academic choices with long-term goals.
