Cabinet minister and chairman of the West Khasi Hills regional boundary committee Paul Lyngdoh said that the Meghalaya government has tried to contact Assam regarding the boundary negotiations but has not received a response.
“I have also asked the DC (Deputy Commissioner) Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills to speak to the DC of Kamrup but so far we have not been able to receive any favourable response,” Lyngdoh told reporters today.
Phase one of the boundary dispute was resolved but the second phase has been stuck for several months now.
Only when a visit to the affected areas takes place can the West Khasi Hills zone submit its final report on the disputed areas within its area.
“We have indicated winter of 2024-25, so we are still awaiting that response from the government of Assam,” Lyngdoh said.
He said that during the last meeting held in Shillong between both sides documents were shared and the response was positive. Only one more hurdle needs to be crossed, namely the visit to the disputed areas where the views of the people in those places will be heard.
“That is the only hitch that remains,” Lyngdoh stated.
