The Army Service Corps Motorcycle Display Team, the Tornadoes, reached Shillong today.
On December 8, 2022 the Army Service Corps will celebrate its 11th reunion and 262nd Corps Day. To commemorate the Corps’ history and pay homage to the soldiers and martyrs who have served the nation, the Tornadoes are undertaking a 2,600km motorcycle expedition through the North East.
The riders will pay homage to martyrs at war memorials in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya and Nagaland.
The expedition commenced from Tezpur on October 1, passed through Tenga Valley – Bomdila – Sela Pass – Tawang – forward posts of Tawang – Kalaktang – Guwahati – Shillong – Kombrian – Imphal – Dinjan and finally culminate at Gajraj War Memorial, Tezpur, on October 17.
The team, consisting of 15 riders, is led by Maj Ramya Venkat and Capt AS Grewal.
They will pay homage at the War Memorial in Shillong before being flagged off by Lt Gen KC Panchanathan, GOC 101 Area, on October 9.
The Tornadoes were formed in 1967 and have built up an impressive 32 world records under their belts since then. The team is stationed at ASC Centre (South), Bangalore and comprises 39 riders, which includes two officers, two junior commissioned officers and 35 other ranks.
