Despite being a good debater in the Assembly, East Shillong MLA and NPP candidate Ampareen Lyngdoh chose to skip the election debate for candidates held today at her constituency.
Explaining her absence from the debate, Lyngdoh said that since she had visited all households in the constituency, there was no point attending any debate.
The debate was organised by Seng Samla Laitumkhrah at Laitumkhrah police point parking lot.
Except Lyngdoh, the debate was attended by all candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections from the constituency.
They include Manuel Badwar of Congress, Avner Pariat of VPP, Ajoy Nongrum of Trinamool Congress, Phira Rani of PDF and Wanpynhun Kharsyntiew of KAM.
Lyngdoh’s husband Fantin J. Lakadong who was invited to give a brief speech said that his wife could not attend the debate due to her prior commitment to her constituents.
He also read out the letter she sent to the Seng Samla Laitumkhrah.
“I have visited all households in my constituency and answered people’s questions about what I have done in the last five years. Personally, I feel public debate is no longer necessary since I have entered all households in my constituency,” Lyngdoh said in the letter.
