An owner of a petrol pump who is also a candidate for the upcoming Assembly elections has been allotted ‘Petrol Pump’ as his symbol.
Today, the Election Commission allotted symbols to all candidates contesting the upcoming polls.
Samborlang Diengdoh, an independent candidate from Pynthorumkhrah constituency, is an owner of Samkhamti petrol pump located at Urkaliar on the Polo-Nongmynsong road.
By getting a symbol close to his business, Diengdoh perhaps is trying to make his impression on the voters of his constituency.
Further, another independent candidate from North Shillong got a symbol which was similar to his name.
Michael Kharsyntiew was allotted the symbol of ‘Mike’.
It may be mentioned that Mike is a common nickname for Michael.
Meanwhile, KAM Meghalaya has expressed happiness with the allotment of a common symbol of a “battery torch” for its three candidates—Wanpynhun Kharsyntiew (East Shillong), Angela Rangad (South Shillong) and Kyrsoibor Pyrtuh (North Shillong)
KAM said that the torch and its light are significant for Meghalaya.
“Together with the people we will drive away the darkness of Corruption, Criminality and Communalism,” it said. “The light which emanates from the torch is about hope that will lead us towards justice, peace and equality.”
A daily wage earner Wankit Kupar Kharumnuid who is an independent candidate from Nongthymmai got ‘Hand Cart’ as his symbol.
Meanwhile, former Assembly Speaker Bindo M. Lanong who is contesting as an independent candidate from Nongkrem got ‘Truck’ as his symbol.
Former minister Don Kupar Massar who is an independent candidate from Pynursla got ‘Road Roller’.
