Union Home Minister Amit Shah reached Shillong today to attend the golden jubilee celebration of the North East Council (NEC).
Shah was received at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport in Guwahati by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
He reached Shillong by road to attend the event scheduled tomorrow where Prime Minister Narendra Modi, several Union ministers and lawmakers from the Northeast are also scheduled to take part in it.
On his arrival, Shah went to the Raj Bhavan and was welcomed by Governor Brig. B.D Mishra (Retd.). He then planted sapling of the auracacia tree at the Raj Bhavan premises.
Also present for the tree plantation ceremony were Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Home Secretary Ajay K Bhalla, Chief Secretary Donald P Wahlang, Director General of the Assam Rifles Lieutenant General Pradeep Chandran Nair and Director General of Police Dr. Lajja Ram Bishnoi among others.
