The A·chik Holistic Awakening Movement (AHAM) today expressed its deep concern and opposition to the holding of a written test for the recruitment of Meghalaya Police personnel in South West Garo Hills on a Sunday.
“This appears to be the first time such an examination is being conducted on a Sunday in this region, which is a predominantly Christian area,” AHAM said in a release. “Sunday is not only a general holiday in Meghalaya, with government offices remaining closed, but it is also a sacred day for the Christian community – a time devoted to worship and religious observance.”
The pressure group appealed to the state government to avoid scheduling such important examinations or official events on Sundays in the future, especially in areas where the Christian population is significant.
