The Meghalaya AG Office won the final of Big FM’s Big Futsal Fest, an inter-office tournament, 6-1 against the Meghalaya Secretariat Home Guards here today.
It was going to be an uphill task for the Home Guards against an AG team that has within its ranks former I-League and Shillong Premier League players but if any team could have stopped the AG Office it was the Home Guards, who have shown excellent skill throughout the tournament.
However, the fairytale ending wasn’t to be as the AG team put on their best to win, with a brace from Sheen Sohktung and Restomwell Khriam.
Fivestar Shylla, who had scored 17 goals before today, added another for the Home Guards but that wasn’t quite enough to help his team today.
The day began with an exhibition match of women’s futsal between the employees of Rani Motors and the students of MIMHANS. That set up a celebratory atmosphere that carried on well into the final match.
At the prize distribution ceremony following the final, Fivestar was awarded the Golden Boot for top scorer, Sheen the Golden Ball for best player and Kitbok Nongrum of MIMHANS the Golden Glove for best goalkeeper.
Former India international Aiborlang Khongjee presented the winners’ trophy to the champions. There was no prize money on offer but plenty of honour and glory.
